During their third year at York, Lauren and Toby bonded over their shared love of science and quickly became inseparable despite the challenges of long distance and busy lab schedules. After weathering years apart and growing even closer during the pandemic, they celebrated their marriage at The Hospitium in Museum Gardens in York this time last year.
“Toby and I met on a dating app in our third year at York. We were both studying sciences so around endless days in our respective labs we spent loads of time together and became a couple. We had a few months together in York before I moved to Manchester to train to teach, so we had a few years of relatively long distance before COVID hit. We decided to live together as a bubble during that time and quickly realised we could never go back to weekends only!

We now live together in Leeds with Toby working in York and me working remotely. Last year we got married in June in York city centre, at The Hospitium in Museum Gardens. We had gone for a walk there on one of our early dates, and many times since, and as soon as we viewed the venue again we knew it was where we wanted to tie the knot. The full-circle moment back to York was really special and it’s always going to be one of our favourite cities!”
