From lively history debates in their first university term to a Halloween Ghost Tour first date, this couple’s shared passion has grown into a life together in Cambridgeshire – complete with two guinea pigs and a continued love of exploring historic cities.
“We signed up to the same module in our first ever term of university, and straight away we clicked. We are both passionate about history and would fiercely debate in our seminars, but it became clear how well we got along too. Our first ‘proper’ date was on Halloween 2017, as we did the Ghost Tour of York – and we never looked back!
We would often study together on campus or in the city throughout our degree, one of our favourites being Ippuku Tea House. Our final year was not what we’d at all expected, going into lockdown with 60% of our degrees left to do, but we really supported each other throughout and graduated with 2:1s.
We bought a house together in Cambridgeshire in 2021, and live there with our two beautiful guinea pigs, Bilbo and Gimli. Outside of work we still feed our love of history – visiting historical cities in the UK like Norwich, Bath and York (of course) or abroad, more recently exploring Lisbon.”

Nice! This October it’s 20 years since I met my husband in James college on our first day! We got married in 2008 at the end of 3rd year, stayed to each do a masters degree and now have been married 17 years with 3 children! Back to York for a reunion with friends this weekend! He
