A York Alumni Love Story: Sam and Lauren

A shared love of sports brought this couple together, but it was on a Wednesday night where their relationship moved from just team mates to a lifelong romance. Since then they have taught in schools across the UK and even Singapore, and have recently moved to Australia to begin a life on the other side of the world.

“Lauren and I met through sports in our first year. We both played basketball for James college together, but we also played University-level sports – Lauren played football and I did basketball.

We knew each other from college sport, but it was on a Wednesday night out in our third year where it all began and we started dating from then on.

Since graduating, we have both qualified as teachers. We taught in the same secondary school in Cambridge for four years, then moved to Singapore and taught in an international school together, where I became Head of Maths and Lauren was Head of Science.

We have since moved to Adelaide in Australia, Lauren’s hometown, where we bought a house, have a beautiful golden retriever puppy called Poppy, and we’re still playing sports.”
