After surviving long distance and the intense closeness of lockdown, Melissa & Ben are happily married.

We met in May 2016 when we were both studying at York and had our first date at Lucia’s Restaurant. I studied Mathematics and was part of James College and Ben studied History and Politics and was part of Vanbrugh College.
After we both left University in 2017, my husband went to work in Edinburgh while I worked in Leeds. We had a long distance relationship for two years before we were finally able to move back to York together in June 2019.
After 6 months of living together, Ben proposed to me outside of York Minster. However, very soon after our engagement, the pandemic started so we had two years of living in each other’s pockets! We survived both distance and intense closeness and finally married in October 2022.
We still live in York and are happily married. We now also have a dog, Daisy. All three of us frequently visit both campuses for dog walks and enjoy reminiscing about our time at the university.
