Introducing Jo & Andy, who met in Freshers week 1987 and just celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary.

Andy and I met in Freshers week 1987 at Derwent College. Andy was a BT sponsored Engineering student on the 4 year course with a number of other BT sponsored students and I was studying Chemistry. We didn’t actually get together until the summer of 1988.
We got engaged after I had graduated and Andy still had a year to finish his degree. We settled in Cheshire, close to where I grew up. Andy relocated from his hometown in Essex. We got married in 1992 (we celebrated 30 years last year) and have two daughters.
Our careers and jobs took a few twists and turns – I swore I’d never enter a lab again after I graduated and that holds true to this day! We set up our own telecoms business 16 years ago and we both work in it.
Andy rowed at York (he was Boat Club Captain) and I was a cox – we sadly have no suitable rivers so we have diverted our attention to running, hiking with our two dogs and mountain biking when life allows. I have become interested in politics and am a town councillor as well as trustee of a community charity and treasurer of our local beer festival. We enjoy camping and traveling with our dogs and also love gigs – we saw a few gems at York back then.

We still visit York often, especially since one of our daughters’ studies there and are still in close contact with beloved friends made. Our time at York was very precious to us and full of wonderful memories; it gave us a zest for life and for fun despite what life has thrown at us over the years.
